The Province of Vorarlberg is characterized by a lively scene in architecture.  Having transcended historic architecture, the scene is still reflecting on the fundamental qualities of those times.  Vorarlberg draws on a long-standing architectural tradition, from the baroque era all the way to contemporary architecture.

The buildings have one particularity in common: economic use of design and material.  So much so that experts keep stressing that less could be more. The “scene” has been proving it up to now that simplicity contributes to diversity.

In the architectural scene in Vorarlberg, there is a strong focus on energy efficiency.  As a result, in September of 2007, the Vorarlberg architect Hermann Kaufmann was awarded the “Global Award for Sustainable Architecture” by an international jury in France.

Since 1997, the Austrian architect Petra Haag has been offering guided architectural tours in Vorarlberg.  As well, she is a lecturer on contemporary architecture in the Province.  Each tour is individually arranged to the specific areas of interest.  In most cases, the interior viewing of the buildings is made possible.  Detailed information is obtained from the respective architect, builder or production engineer and made available to the client.
