The City, Sydney offers a rich introduction to Sydney revealing the underlying patterns, forces and ideas that shape its urban form.
Moving from the broad to the particular, the historic to the contemporary, we will conjure an urban narrative that brings to light the social, cultural, ecological and topographic forces at play in the city’s evolution. Through this process of decoding, we’ll explore how these influences continue to shape Sydney’s architecture and urban design.
Focusing on the big end of town, we’ll examine a series of important projects, including buildings by Renzo Piano, Sir Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, Christoph Ingenhoven, Harry Seidler, 3XN and Denton Corker Marshall.
Our route will focus on the defining architectural and urban elements of the city centre and George Street, offering insight into the way Sydney both resists and embraces change.
