This tour leads through the historic heart of Belgrade and recounts the city’s fascinating, often complex and contradictory past. Situated at the crossroads between East and West and North and South, Belgrade bears the traces of more than 2,000 years of European history—from wars and crusades to phases of reconstruction.
Along the route, visitors encounter relics from numerous epochs: Roman and Ottoman walls, 18th-century timber-frame architecture, magnificent historicist buildings—including striking examples highlighting the role of women in architecture—modernism of the 1920s and 1930s, Brutalism, and contemporary structures. The walk leads through the Dorćol district, the university area, the varied architecture along Kralja Petra Street, and the center of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Selected viewpoints offer spectacular vistas of the rivers, illustrating Belgrade’s unique setting and historical development.
