Restore, Reuse, Revisit: Felicitas Konecny (Thumbnail)
Felicitas Konecny
Bratislava, Vienna

Born in Vienna, she studied architecture in Graz, Naples and Vienna and started to work as a freelancer in architects’ offices. 1997-2012 she curated and organized events on architecture (among others,"Architekturtage Wien-Bratislava"), 2010 she co-edited the guidebook "Architekturplan Wien". Since 2006 she is active as "guiding architect", since 2012 she is a partner and since 2020 the owner of Architectural Tours Vienna, leading a team of freelance "guiding architects".

Felicitas is enthusiastic about the diversity and everyday quality of architecture, also beyond star architecture. With her training as a licensed tour guide, she deepened her expertise on Vienna and, motivated by demand, she is expanding the range of tours with topics such as urban development, housing policy, and sustainable building.

Promoting Bratislava, Vienna's often underestimated twin city, is a long-term project of Architectural Tours Vienna. Felicitas became a true “Bratislover” and built up a passionate team of Slovakian “guiding architects.”

Tour in Bratislava:
Restore, Reuse, Revisit

Transformation and reuse of old buildings and their sensitive restoration is one of the hottest topics in contemporary architecture. But there’s more to it than the preservation of unique historic substance: truly distinctive qualities emerge through the adaptation of buildings and the contrast between old and new. Bratislava abounds in such situations, where contemporary architecture meets historical heritage in close quarters. Whether it be a former industrial complex surrounded by skyscrapers designed by a renowned international studio or baroque barracks with a modernist extension transformed into a critically acclaimed project, you’ll come face-to-face with places that reveal Bratislava’s urbanistic superpower.
