Turia river bike tour: Boris Strzelczyk (Thumbnail)
Boris Strzelczyk
Valencia

Boris Strzelczyk was born in southern Germany and, at the age of one, moved with his family to a small coastal town in Spain, where he grew up by the Mediterranean Sea. Boris studied architecture at the ETSAM in Madrid and began his professional training in the field that had always interested him.

He returned in 2006 to his adopted city of Valencia, where he founded GA Valencia. He currently runs his own architecture studio and designs and conducts tours. His interests focus on the culture, sociology, history and urban development that have shaped Valencia into a dynamic city that remains relatively undiscovered by many.

Tour in Valencia:
Turia river bike tour

Valencia is a river city that, after losing its river, transformed its hydraulic infrastructure into a world-class green corridor. In the 1960s, an urban development plan redirected the course of the Turia River to prevent historic flooding. Decades later, neighborhood pressure promoted the conversion of the old riverbed into a linear park that now structures the city and which Valencians continue to call ‘the river.’

This cycle route crosses 8 km of green infrastructure until it reaches the seafront. Along the way, you can see historical and contemporary bridges, the landscaping work carried out in different phases, Santiago Calatrava's City of Arts and Sciences, urban landmarks such as the famous Gulliver children's playground and the future Desembocadura Park, currently under development as a new transition between the city, the river and the sea. An experience that allows you to understand the Turia as a continuous public space and key to the designation of Valencia as European Green Capital in 2024.
