Tour in Milan:
Architecture of the 20th Century

Milan’s 20th-century architecture is a journey through innovation, tradition, and urban transformation. The Velasca Tower (BBPR, 1951–1958) dominates the skyline with its reinforced concrete structure, echoing the Duomo’s height while expressing a bold vision of contemporary architecture. Its sculptural form embodies the dialogue between tradition and modernity that defines Milanese design.

Luigi Moretti’s offices and residences in Corso Italia break 19th-century conventions, with orthogonal volumes, free-cut façades, and glass-dominated bases, introducing a new architectural language for urban living.

The Via Quadronno houses by Mangiarotti and Morassutti explore steel, glass, and reflective surfaces, creating apartments that interact visually with the city and reinterpret residential design.

Earlier works, like the Arengario - now the Museum of the Twentieth Century - and De Finetti’s Meridiana House, provide context, showing the evolution from modernist experimentation to expressive, contemporary forms.
