Tour in Milan:
Southern Milan: Design, Culture, and Urban Transformation

Southern Milan illustrates the transformation of former industrial zones and railway yards into restructured urban districts integrating cultural institutions, universities, and contemporary office-based economies.

The Tortona district, a center for design and fashion, features the Mudec Museum of Cultures by David Chipperfield, housed in a former industrial building, blending heritage with contemporary architecture. Bocconi University, with campus spaces designed by SANAA and Grafton Architects, adds academic and urban vitality to the area.

The Olympic Village forms an integral part of the Scalo Romana redevelopment, introducing a new residential quarter within the former rail yard. Nearby, the Symbiosis district functions as a directional business area dedicated to offices and corporate headquarters. Fondazione Prada, designed by OMA in a converted distillery, stands as a landmark of contemporary art.

This tour provides a guided exploration of Milan’s architectural evolution, highlighting how adaptive reuse and contemporary design have reshaped the cityscape.
