Tour in Vorarlberg:
The Future of History

In Vorarlberg, the future of architecture unfolds through a subtle dialogue between tradition and innovation. Projects such as the experimental Martin Rauch House and his prefabricated rammed-earth workshop combine rammed-earth walls with timber structures to create beautiful, energy-efficient, acoustically optimized buildings. Made from locally sourced earth, these walls provide thermal mass and regulate humidity, ensuring a healthy indoor climate.

Timber construction remains central, complemented by modern techniques such as cross-laminated timber (CLT) and dowel-laminated timber (DLT), along with hemp insulation and carbon-neutral concrete, supporting sustainable building practices.

Historic buildings, like the 300-year-old wooden village Schwarzenberg or the Tschitscher Schlössle in Feldkirch, demonstrate how tradition can be carefully adapted for contemporary use. House 22 26 exemplifies architecture that aligns with seasonal rhythms, naturally regulating airflow without technical systems.

We particularly enjoy visiting both emerging construction projects and historic buildings that have proven their real sustainability over centuries.
