Oslo is the capital city of Norway, situated between forested hillsides and the Oslo fjord, and has in recent years become a favorite destination for architecture enthusiasts. An extensive development of the harbor areas has resulted in spectacular projects like the opera by arch. Snøhetta, the Astrup Fearnley art museum by arch. Renzo Piano and the Edvard Munch museum by arch. Herreros, as well as waterfront housing, city beaches and new infrastructure. Major transformation projects include the former Oslo airport at Fornebu, and new housing in industrial sites. Oslo also offers many examples of environmental-friendly architecture, both concerning massive wood construction, low-emission building sites and re-use of materials.
