After the founding of the Serbian state in 1882, Belgrade was a capital city with around 40,000 inhabitants in the entire catchment area. The tour focuses on those areas of the city that shaped Belgrade in the course of its rapid development from a small town to a seat of government and a major city – a city that had already grown to around 100,000 inhabitants before the First World War and had a population of around 300,000 by 1940. The tour takes you to the parliament and city hall, covers the expansion of the city centre in the Vračar area at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, and includes residential construction projects from the 1970s and 1980s. You will also visit the Cathedral of Saint Sava, the National Library and the Polyclinic.
